MINERS RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EMERGENCY EVACUATIONS, DRILLS, AND TRAINING

You are required to take part in mine emergency evacuation training and drills on a quarterly basis. In addition, you must participate in escapeway drills at least once every 90 days. As part of your mine’s emergency and evacuation training program, you must also receive hands-on instruction in the proper use of self-rescue devices. During each evacuation drill, you are required to complete the following actions:

Travel the entire length of the primary or alternate escapeway.
Physically locate directional lifelines and stored self-contained self-rescuers (SCSRs).

A newly hired miner who has not yet participated in an emergency evacuation training and drill must do so during the next scheduled mine emergency evacuation drill.

You are also required to complete expectations training annually. This training includes wearing and transferring SCSRs in actual or simulated smoke, or in a comparable environment. Newly hired miners must complete expectations training within the first quarter of employment at the mine.

Upon completion of each training session or drill, the mine operator is required to certify, by signature and date, that the training was conducted in accordance with 30 CFR 75.1504. The operator must retain all training certifications at the mine for a period of one year and make them available for review by your miners’ representative. In addition, you may request and receive a copy of the training certification upon request.
